The town of Stø is a very old and unique fishing station with about
200 year round residents. There is a huge amount of fishing activity in
Stø because of the fishing station and salmon farm. From the beginning
of May until the end of July it is possible to experience the teeming
activity in Stø, because of the yearly halibut and coalfish season.
In the middle of town there
is a large tern (kittiwake/small seagull) bird colony. There are literally
hundreds of nesting birds.
One of Northern Norway's oldest
wooden churches is just a short walk from town. Langnes Church dates from
the early 15 hundreds.
